Romantic Moment in History: The Oldest Known Valentine Is Written

Valentine's Day (or close), 1415

Charles, Duke of Orleans, composed a Valentine's poem for his wife while imprisoned in the Tower of London, following his capture at the Battle of Agincourt.

His poem is believed to be the oldest known valentine, and is part of the manuscript collection of the British Library in London.

Be ready for more Valentine's Day historical facts this month. :)

  1. Oh wow that is very cool....I think Valentine's have lost the romance now..People don't take the time to write from the heart and they just get a card sign it and that is it..Where is the romance?

    1. Savannah, I agree that handmade valentines are the best. :) When I was a little kid, my parents would make me and my brothers (and each other) handmade valentines each year. I loved getting them, and now that I'm an adult, I still make my valentines by hand!
